The Kid’s Been Busy

by serafinaholt

On Monday night, Delia and I went to the New WVU Erickson Alumni center to attend the Celebration of Young Writers. WVU held the ceremony for all the kids in the county who placed in the Young Writer's Competition and their teachers. Delia's story "Mystery Demolition" won 3rd place in the 3rd - 4th grade category. West Virginia author, Cheryl Ware, gave a presentation that wove together pieces of every child's story. When Delia heard her words being read aloud, she was just tickled pink. I

Hanging Tomatoes

by serafinaholt

I was looking at the upside down tomato planters at Big Lots the other day, and while the idea seemed like a good one, the execution left a lot to be desired aesthetically. Ugly is what they were. This is much more pleasant to look at and hopefully just as effective. You can hang it from a shepherd's hook by your porch even if you don't have much space. First I found a couple of hanging baskets with coco liners just sitting on my planting bench, condos for spiders. If you buy them new they p

Poem of the Day

by serafinaholt

Sonnet 91by William ShakespeareSome glory in their birth, some in their skill,Some in their wealth, some in their body's force; Some in their garments, though new-fangled ill; Some in their hawks and hounds, some in their horse; And every humour hath his adjunct pleasure,Wherein it finds a joy above the rest:But these particulars are not my measure; All these I better in one general best.Thy love is better than high birth to me,Richer than wealth, prouder than garments' cost,Of more delight than haw

Building a wall

by serafinaholt

We'd been planning this retaining wall for some time, to keep our front yard from falling further into the street. I wanted to use the space for more garden, but every time I would try to plant anything there it would eventually slide down into the street. Ever hear of the angle of repose? Interesting concept, and the reason why my landscaping always washed away down the hill.Originally I was going to build a picket fence type barrier out of disassembled shipping pallets, but upon actually ac

iPhucked Up

by John Cummings

Looks like Apple is about to get caught with its pants down pretty seriously over the uncovering that the iPhone has been silently collecting location data of iPhone users and storing it in an unencrypted SQLite database pretty much for as long as you’ve had your iPhone. It’s unclear at this point why the data is being collected – most likely in support of a feature that they’re going to introduce but didn’t yet want to let the public in on.   I have a feeling, th

Happy Birthday Madyson!

by serafinaholt

Has it really been a year already? Yep! We went to Maddy's First Birthday party on Sunday, at the West Milford Community Center. Fabulous!Grandpa Carson's two little girls.Maddy needed a little encouragement to dig in to her cake.Rockin' in her new chair from Cathy and Grandpa Carson.Opening Presents wit

Sharepoint 2007-2010 Migration: Feature {GUID} for list template ‘xxx’ is not installed on this farm

by John Cummings

If you have a lot of content that you’re migrating from MOSS 2007 to Sharepoint 2010, you’ll more than likely run in to a few site collections that refuse to render, and instead give you a screen that looks something like the one below: Once you get past the anger you’ll feel at reading an error message like “An unexpected error has occurred”  (really guys, this is the best you can do on the third try?   Aren’t all “errors” unexpected?)  you

Thirty-seven?!?

by John Cummings

It gets stranger every year to catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and note the disparity between what’s staring back at me, and my perception of where I’m at in life. The revaluation of life goals and the reshuffling of priorities gets ever more interesting.

Why I Wouldn’t Ever Sign a “Statement of Faith”, and You Shouldn’t Either

by John Cummings

As my continued disillusionment with the modern Christian church marches onward like Sabine Baring-Gould’s Christian Soldier, I’ve recently been put in a position where I was asked to sign a “Statement of Faith” laying out affirmations about what I’m supposed to believe in, and making sure that those beliefs correspond directly to the biblical interpretation that the majority of the congregants have determined is “what God meant when he wrote this.” My p
